About the Workshop

This live workshop is designed for trauma-informed professionals who want both an introductory and comprehensive dive into Gender Affirming Care.  This workshop is perfect for those just beginning their educational journey in Gender Affirming Care. This workshop is also useful for those who wish to deepen their knowledge and preparedness to assist individuals in the transgender community.

We welcome helpers and healers from all professions. If you work with people, you are welcome here.

During our time together, we will explore:
  • Gender, Sexuality, and Terminology
  • Deep dive into Social, Medical, and Legal Transitions
  • Mental Health and Trauma
  • Trauma-Informed Care: How Gender Fits In
  • Retraumatization in Professional Settings: The 4 R’s of Trauma-Informed Care
  • Standards of Care for Professionals

Gender Affirming Care and Training for Professionals

You will learn from a trans educator and be welcomed into a group of individuals eager to learn and all likely worried about making mistakes. Don’t worry, we will dive into what it’s like to make a mistake, how to correct it, and grow from it.  This workshop will spark meaningful conversations and create an inclusive environment that prioritizes growth, empathy, and understanding.

While this workshop is designed for folks new to Gender Affirming Care, we will explore deeper topics that often aren’t included on LGBTQIA+ trainings. These topics include medical changes, transition expectations, surgical interventions, co-occurring issues, changes to WPATH standards, and institutional harm.

This workshop will include both lecture and experiential components. You’ll have opportunities to take part in small group activities and practical exercises designed to reduce mistakes and create better client outcomes. Our overall mission is to equip you with the confidence needed to provide compassionate care while minimizing the risk of retraumatizing your clients.

In order to create a workshop centered around meaningful conversations, seating is limited.

Content disclosure: During this workshop we will be discussing topics around anatomy (including common anatomical and physical changes during a medical transition), trauma, and sensitive topics, such as suicidality, self harm, and sexual trauma.

This workshop has both didactic and experiential learning components and attendees will be expected to participate in group exercises.

Learning Objectives
  • Define key terms: CIS, Transgender, Non-Binary, Gender Expansive, and Gender Dysphoria
  • List two medical interventions available for the treatment of gender dysphoria
  • Identify the sixth trauma-informed care principle
  • Recognize at least one significant change to WPATH’s standards of care in the last ten years
