The value of trauma therapy and other support groups\, such as Adult Children of Alcoholics & Dysfunctional Families (ACOA)\, will be discussed with emphasis on their value for trauma survivors. Some examples of the lasting effects of growing up in a dysfunctional environment are difficulty with emotional regulation\, trouble with relationships\, issues with self-esteem\, and childhood trauma. Common traits associated with being raised in a dysfunctional environment involve fear of abandonment\, difficulty with intimacy\, and a tendency to be people-pleasers.
