This experiential workshop offers a safe and supportive space to explore the complex emotions of grief and loss through the experiential methods of psychodrama. Participants are invited to engage in action-based processes to give voice to unspoken feelings\, honor their losses\, and reconnect with inner strengths. Utilizing multiple interactive exercises we will create opportunities for healing\, meaning-making\, and community-building. Through the role-playing techniques in psychodrama\, we will renegotiate unresolved grief while working towards closure. Whether grieving the death of a loved one\, a relationship\, an identity\, or life transition\, this workshop invites participants to witness one another and find new pathways toward integration and hope. No prior experience with psychodrama is necessary—just a willingness to engage and be present.\n\nThis event is a personal growth workshop\, not a professional training event or therapy session. Participants are required to complete a short 15-minute intake to discern appropriateness for this workshop. It is expected that participants have an ongoing relationship with a therapist\, sponsor\, or other support to help process emotions after the workshop. \nFacilitator Bio:\nDr. Scott Giacomucci\, DSW\, LCSW\, BCD\, CGP\, FAAETS\, TEP\, is the Director/Founder of the Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy and Director of Trauma Services at Mirmont Treatment Center. Whether initiated by choice\, necessity\, or circumstance\, estrangement brings with it a range of emotions: grief\, anger\, confusion\, and sometimes even relief. In this workshop we will explore the psychological\, relational\, and social dimensions of estrangement\, and what it means to live in the space between connection and separation. \nThis webinar is designed to offer insight\, validation\, and tools for those working to support others through estrangement\, or who are experiencing it themselves. It was Denise’s work as chaplain to the Neumann University women’s volleyball team that inspired her to pursue counseling as a career.\n\nShe works with individuals who have experienced sexual trauma\, relational trauma\, attachment and betrayal trauma\, grief and loss\, shame\, PTSD\, depression\, anxiety\, phobias\, and more. She has 20 years of experience helping people navigate grief\, loss\, end of life care\, substance use disorders\, and trauma. She also works with people of all ages on the Autism Spectrum and those with a wide range of developmental and cognitive abilities.\n\n\nHer early connection to music\, song-writing\, performance led Meryl into pursuing music therapy as a career. She incorporates EMDR\, IFS\, and psychodrama in sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to facilitate a group psychodrama and receive feedback from their peers and the trainer. Feedback will be provided based on the psychodrama certification competencies outlined by the ABE\, as well as trauma-informed psychodrama considerations. Each participant will also have the opportunity to be the protagonist and play auxiliary roles to learn psychodrama from the inside-out. \nPsychodrama facilitation competencies emphasized will include a demonstrated understanding of group phases\, the warming-up process\, spontaneity-creativity theory\, role theory\, protagonist selection\, contracting\, scene setting\, concretization\, doubling\, the mirror position\, role reversal\, soliloquy\, directing auxiliaries and the audience\, facilitating catharsis safely\,  facilitating closure/integration\, containment\, strength-based roles\, trauma-informed principles in psychodrama\, attending to issues of diversity\, equity\, and inclusion in psychodrama\, subroles of the director\, and facilitating the sharing phase of a psychodrama session. \nPrevious Experience\nWhile this is a training workshop\, and training will be held as the priority\, there will be a multitude of secondary opportunities for personal growth. The workshop tickets with directing practice are designed for intermediate and advanced psychodrama students and would not be the best workshop for someone who has no prior psychodrama training. Becoming a psychodrama trainer is often an intimidating process as it involves developing curriculums\, marketing events\, managing registration\, and building a training group. Beyond practicing psychodrama in our workshops\, we must be able to facilitate the processing phase of a session (warm-up\, action\, sharing\, then processing) to articulate to students the connections between theory and practice that inform our directing choices.
