Through psychodrama and sociometry\, we will explore internal roles as well as spiritual\, existential\, and archetypal domains. Drawing from the mystical teachings of Jacob L. Moreno and other traditions\, we will examine how the individual’s internal experience resonates within group processes and connects to broader transpersonal themes. Throughout the workshop\, we will examine religious\, spiritual\, and existential themes with a sensitivity to the trauma and harm that many have experienced from religion in the past. Utilizing a blend of psychodrama\, sociodrama\, and axiodramatic methods\, we will consider not only personal relationships and inner conflicts but also the universal patterns that shape our human experience. This presentation focuses on understanding social determinants of trauma and how a variety of experiences shape our responses (ie. attachment\, adverse childhood experiences\, and adverse community environments). Additionally\, we will discuss shifting the language and reframing the way we understand the function of certain behaviors and emotions towards survival. (Some key words/concepts touched on in the presentation- moral injury\, racism\, substance use\, suicidality/self-harm\, self-blame\, hypo and hyper-arousal responses\, and attribution.)\n\n\n\nLearning Objectives\n\n1. Apply a trauma-informed lens to a variety of symptoms and trauma responses\n\n\n\n\nDr. Ramona Roberts is the Senior Executive Director of the Regional Outpatient Services for Caron Treatment Center\, overseeing clinical and administrative operations for several offices. She is currently a level II certified clinical trauma professional with training in multiple trauma modalities including EMDR\, sensorimotor\, IFS\, and CPT. Additionally\, she is a certified experiential therapist with training in trauma-informed experiential therapies (sociometry\, psychodrama\, and adventure-based counseling). Dr. Roberts is the author of Making Sense of What Hasn’t Made Sense\, which is geared towards trauma survivors\, family members\, friends\, and clinicians\, and has garnered both the Counselor’s Choice award in 2022 and the Independent Press’ Distinguished Favorite award in 2023. She has presented research at regional\, national\, and intercontinental conferences and has several publications in professional peer-reviewed journals. She is recognized as a certified trainer of adolescent co-occurring disorders by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. She has won several awards in her career\, including Betty J McDonough Treatment award; Humanitarian of the Year; Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching; and the Inaugural Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Employee Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Award. She earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Participants will have the opportunity to facilitate a group psychodrama and receive feedback from their peers and the trainer. Feedback will be provided based on the psychodrama certification competencies outlined by the ABE\, as well as trauma-informed psychodrama considerations. Each participant will also have the opportunity to be the protagonist and play auxiliary roles to learn psychodrama from the inside-out. \nPsychodrama facilitation competencies emphasized will include a demonstrated understanding of group phases\, the warming-up process\, spontaneity-creativity theory\, role theory\, protagonist selection\, contracting\, scene setting\, concretization\, doubling\, the mirror position\, role reversal\, soliloquy\, directing auxiliaries and the audience\, facilitating catharsis safely\,  facilitating closure/integration\, containment\, strength-based roles\, trauma-informed principles in psychodrama\, attending to issues of diversity\, equity\, and inclusion in psychodrama\, subroles of the director\, and facilitating the sharing phase of a psychodrama session. \nWhile this is a training workshop\, and training will be held as the priority\, there will be a multitude of secondary opportunities for personal growth. The workshop tickets with directing practice are designed for intermediate and advanced psychodrama students and would not be the best workshop for someone who has no prior psychodrama training. Participants are expected to have past experiential/psychodrama experience as a prerequisite for purchasing a ticket with directing practice\, as well as a foundational understanding of psychodrama’s methodology. The value of trauma therapy and other support groups\, such as Adult Children of Alcoholics & Dysfunctional Families (ACOA)\, will be discussed with emphasis on their value for trauma survivors. Some examples of the lasting effects of growing up in a dysfunctional environment are difficulty with emotional regulation\, trouble with relationships\, issues with self-esteem\, and childhood trauma. Common traits associated with being raised in a dysfunctional environment involve fear of abandonment\, difficulty with intimacy\, and a tendency to be people-pleasers. What is not so universal is the process we undergo in navigating life after loss. Grief is a process that is unique to the individual\, and no definitive timeline exists for this process. Grief is not something one ‘gets over’\, though it is something we can successfully get through. Many times\, grief has (ripple) effects that are conscious and unconscious\, in the midst of powerful emotion and the uncertainty that occurs in experiencing death.
