Participants will have the opportunity to facilitate a group psychodrama and receive feedback from their peers and the trainer. Feedback will be provided based on the psychodrama certification competencies outlined by the ABE\, as well as trauma-informed psychodrama considerations. Each participant will also have the opportunity to be the protagonist and play auxiliary roles to learn psychodrama from the inside-out. \nPsychodrama facilitation competencies emphasized will include a demonstrated understanding of group phases\, the warming-up process\, spontaneity-creativity theory\, role theory\, protagonist selection\, contracting\, scene setting\, concretization\, doubling\, the mirror position\, role reversal\, soliloquy\, directing auxiliaries and the audience\, facilitating catharsis safely\,  facilitating closure/integration\, containment\, strength-based roles\, trauma-informed principles in psychodrama\, attending to issues of diversity\, equity\, and inclusion in psychodrama\, subroles of the director\, and facilitating the sharing phase of a psychodrama session. \nWhile this is a training workshop\, and training will be held as the priority\, there will be a multitude of secondary opportunities for personal growth. Tattoos have been used throughout history to mark initiation\, status or roles in the community\, or for religious/spiritual purposes. Over 30% of the US population has at least one tattoo. This means that we are frequently working with clients with tattoos which can offer us potent insight into their meaning-making process. \nMultiple research studies have highlighted how tattoos offer trauma or loss survivors with an avenue for healing\, bearing witness\, memorializing pain\, combating shame\, and initiating connection. Meryl attended Bryn Mawr’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research and holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from the State University of New York at New Paltz. She has 20 years of experience helping people navigate grief\, loss\, end of life care\, substance use disorders\, and trauma. She also works with people of all ages on the Autism Spectrum and those with a wide range of developmental and cognitive abilities.\n\n\nHer early connection to music\, song-writing\, performance led Meryl into pursuing music therapy as a career. She incorporates EMDR\, IFS\, and psychodrama in sessions. Meryl is a life-long student and believes that expanding her skill set will help to continue to meet the individual needs of her clients.  Meryl’s has a humanistic\, relational\, and strengths-based approach to psychotherapy.  She understands that the creative healing arts is rooted in the belief that each person holds the innate power to heal\, grow\, and flourish.  Meryl believes that the therapist is a guide to help navigate the process. In this workshop we will explore the psychological\, relational\, and social dimensions of estrangement\, and what it means to live in the space between connection and separation. \nThis webinar is designed to offer insight\, validation\, and tools for those working to support others through estrangement\, or who are experiencing it themselves. She earned her Reiki Master level in 2020. It was Denise’s work as chaplain to the Neumann University women’s volleyball team that inspired her to pursue counseling as a career.\n\nShe works with individuals who have experienced sexual trauma\, relational trauma\, attachment and betrayal trauma\, grief and loss\, shame\, PTSD\, depression\, anxiety\, phobias\, and more. Additionally\, she is a certified experiential therapist with training in trauma-informed experiential therapies (sociometry\, psychodrama\, and adventure-based counseling). Dr. Roberts is the author of Making Sense of What Hasn’t Made Sense\, which is geared towards trauma survivors\, family members\, friends\, and clinicians\, and has garnered both the Counselor’s Choice award in 2022 and the Independent Press’ Distinguished Favorite award in 2023. She has presented research at regional\, national\, and intercontinental conferences and has several publications in professional peer-reviewed journals. She is recognized as a certified trainer of adolescent co-occurring disorders by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Given the addition of xylazine to the changing illicit drug supply\, this Webinar will also provide information on fentanyl test strips\, updated withdrawal protocols\, and updated overdose reversal techniques. This Webinar is being presented by Sarah Laurel\, Executive Director of Savage Sisters\, an organization that stresses the importance of knowing how to interact with people currently using drugs or experiencing homelessness and providing basic public health needs to combat the public crisis we are experiencing. This session aims to equip participants with practical knowledge and resources to address the challenges posed by xylazine use in a thorough and compassionate manner. \nAbout Sarah Laurel: \nAfter recovering from substance use disorder\, Sarah sought to offer resources to women like herself. What began organically\, grew into a program providing housing\, street-based outreach and nationwide training. Sarah uses her lived experiences to serve others and stay relatable to those still struggling.
