About this Webinar:

This 1-hour Webinar offers an essential intro to gender-affirming surgery (GAS) for support staff, clinical therapists, and anyone working with trans and gender-diverse clients. Participants will explore the main types of gender-affirming surgical options available, gain insight into what the surgical journey is really like from pre-operative preparation through recovery, and learn how to better support clients before, during, and after surgery. Attendees will leave with practical awareness and concrete ideas to enhance their client support and confidence in engaging with this care pathway.

This session is designed as a short introduction to a more in-depth, 90 minute workshop that comprehensively covers specific surgery types (eg: the specifics around trans-feminine vs trans-masculine procedures) and more.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe at least three common categories of gender-affirming surgery and the general goals of each
  2. Summarize key phases of the surgical journey (pre-operative, intra-operative, post-operative/recovery) and identify at least two client support needs at each phase
  3. Apply at least two communication or care-support strategies to enhance the client experience when working with individuals undergoing gender-affirming surgery
