“Trauma-Informed” has become a buzzword recently. Suddenly everyone is “trauma-informed” and every treatment program is “trauma-informed”. However, there appears to be a lacking shared understanding of what “trauma-informed” means. This workshop offers a foundational introduction to SAMHSA’s 6 core principles of trauma-informed care which are applicable in any setting (treatment, education, community, organizations, etc). The differences between “trauma-informed” and “trauma-focused” will be highlighted and the basics of PTSD will be presented. Experiential techniques including sociometry and sociodrama will be employed to explore trauma-informed principles and PTSD in action. The trauma triangle will be presented as an operational definition of PTSD embodied in role theory. Participants will develop a deepened sense of PTSD and the importance of trauma-informed principles in an engaging and experiential workshop format.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify 4 PTSD symptom clusters
  • Describe trauma-informed principles
  • Explain the difference between trauma-informed and trauma-focused
