Angela Pensyl (She/Her/Hers) is a student clinician pursuing her master’s degree in Community and Trauma Counseling at Thomas Jefferson University with bachelor’s degrees in psychology and Spanish and a minor in international development. She believes therapy should be a space where clients feel safe, respected, and able to show up as themselves. Angela understands that reaching out for support can feel vulnerable, and she works to create a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore their experiences at a pace that feels comfortable.

Therapeutic Approach

Angela understands that trauma can affect each person differently, so she does not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. She uses a person-centered, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed approach, working collaboratively with each client to shape treatment around their individual needs, goals, strengths, experiences, and comfort level. Depending on each client’s needs, Angela may incorporate elements of CBT, DBT skills, mindfulness, grounding, somatic healing, and strengths-based interventions. She is excited to develop her skills in EMDR and Compassionate Inquiry. Her goal is to provide a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where clients feel understood and can work toward healing in ways that feel right for them.

Professional Experience

Angela has experience supporting adolescents and adults in inpatient psychiatric treatment, substance use treatment, and private practice settings. She has worked with individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, emotional distress, substance use, relationship concerns, and major life transitions. Her experience includes individual counseling, group therapy, crisis support, emotional regulation, and helping clients navigate major life transitions. She also has experience in immigration and Men’s mental health research. Angela is interested in working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. She recognizes how identity, family, culture, relationships, and life experiences intersect and influence emotional well-being, and she believes these parts of a client’s story deserve to be understood and respected.
