About the Workshop
This workshop centers the six trauma-informed principles outlined by SAMHSA as guiding values in psychodrama practice, group work, and leadership (drawing from content in Dr. Scott’s 2023 book on the topic). These principles will be presented as both clinical guides and ethical imperatives. Participants will be challenged to explore their own relationships to trauma-informed principles and areas for growth in their practice and their workplace. Trauma-informed care considerations will be applied specifically to the practice of group therapy and psychodrama with an emphasis on resisting retraumatization. Multiple sociometric and psychodramatic interventions will be taught as trauma-informed experiential methods. The importance of attending to safety, trust, peer support, collaboration, empowerment, and identity will be explored in further detail as they relate to trauma-informed care and the practice of sociometry, psychodrama, and group psychotherapy.

*Please note that this is workshop will include both didactic and experiential learning components. The experiential learning structures include demonstrations of psychodrama and other experiential processes which often include (optional) personal disclosures from participants. While personal growth is often a byproduct of experiential learning in psychodrama, the primary purpose of this workshop is training. If you are seeking a workshop for personal growth or seeking a professional training event that is entirely didactic (lecture/powerpoint), this is probably not the best workshop for you.
