Working Description of Plenary Session:
The plenary session, The Time is Right for Social Work is a topic of immediate importance to social workers and all Americans. Social workers are facing extreme challenges such as COVID-19 pandemic, systemic racism, economic inequality, climate change, and other crises.  At present, there are nearly 720,000 social workers in the United States. That number is expected to grow by 12 percent by the end of the decade, making social work one of the fastest growing professions in the nation, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Social workers have played an integral role in securing passage of some of the most important issues of our time including the Civil Rights and Women’s Rights movements and pushed for social programs we now take for granted, including the minimum wage, a 40-hour work week, Social Security and Medicare. The objective of The Time is Right for Social Work plenary session is to discuss the implications of these and other issues to America and world and how social work will continue to play a lead role in addressing resolutions.
