Is your entire team providing competent and affirming care?

Gender Affirming Care and Trauma-Informed Care Workshops and Training

Trauma-Informed Care and Gender Affirming care should be synonymous when providing safe and ethical care for all clients, which requires both introductory and continuous learning. This workshop offers a full, comprehensive overview of both Trauma-Informed Care and Gender Affirming care, to create affirming practices for all clients, including those who are transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive.  We will explore how to create trust and transparency, build safer emotional spaces, and learn how to support each other through current changes to Gender Affirming Care.

Our Workshops

These workshops aim to integrate Gender Affirming Care into the six Trauma-Informed Care Principles to create affirming practices for transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive clients.  We will explore how to create trust and transparency, build safer emotional spaces, and navigate changes to Gender Affirming Care.  These workshops are offered as half-day, full-day, or multi-day offerings, depending on your desired level of comprehensiveness, knowledge that already exists in the organization, and the overall goals. This workshop will include both didactic and experiential learning components and is designed to be experiential and practice-based.  This workshop is designed for a variety of fields and can be adapted to meet the needs of your organization.

Full-Day Learning Objectives

2. Understand basic gender-affirming care practices

The Facilitator

Chris Klem, Manager of Community Relationships: Intake, Outreach, Marketing, Continuing Education and Professional Development

Chris Klem, he/him, MS, has over a decade of experience designing and facilitating training programs for both large and small organizations. Some of his past training topics include: Trauma-Informed Care, Supporting LGBTQIA+ Clients (including Gender Affirming Care), Sexual Violence, Mandatory Reporting, Ethics and Values, Capacity & Competency, Aging-Related Care, and Caregiving. As a queer and trans educator, Chris believes ongoing continuing education is essential for all staff at an organization wanting to provide safe and affirming care to their clients and patients.

Adult learning and continuing education has been embedded in his professional career and has always been his favorite aspect of any role he has held. As someone who struggles with reading comprehension, he thrives with hands on learning, and strives to incorporate various learning techniques in his workshops. He also prioritizes practice-based and experiential learning. Knowing that some of the most valuable opportunities for learning arise from first-hand experience, he finds that all of us have valuable information to share, and knowledge doesn’t just come from formal education.
