About This Group
The purpose of this therapy group is to bring together women who wish to address: relational trauma, emotional pain, self-medicating behaviors, feelings of disconnect, unworthiness, grief and self-blame that often are by-products of trauma. We will spend our time together constructing a special space in which to explore relationship with Self and others. In doing so, we will discover and develop an appreciation for the protective parts of you, identify and tap into strengths, and explore your sense of purpose through interpersonal and experiential group therapy techniques (expressive arts and psychodrama). We will learn ways to support your nervous system incorporating somatic techniques. This group will emphasize the discovery of self-compassion as you connect with your ongoing resilience and inspire motivation for positive change that is often born in the wake of significant trauma.
No artistic or creative experience is needed to join this group. Expressive arts and experiential practices are gently integrated as supportive tools for self-exploration and healing, with an emphasis on curiosity, choice, and meeting yourself exactly where you are.
This is a closed 12-week group for women who have a history of trauma. A commitment to on-going attendance is important.
This group is led by: María José Sotomayor-Giacomucci, LCSW, MSS
