About the workshop:

Trauma responsive care is an approach to healing that values the whole person and their story. When engaging with subjects such as human sexuality and LGBTQIA+ care, trauma-informed principles are vital. In this training, we will review the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) six trauma-informed principles, provide a foundation of understanding on sexually-informed and LGBTQIA+ care, and how to apply these concepts clinically. The foundations presented in this course will be expanded upon in the remaining workshops in the series. More information about these workshops can be found below.

Learning Objectives:

  • List the six trauma informed principles and the four R’s of trauma-informed care
  • Identify how the trauma informed principles support human sexuality and LGBTQIA+ care
  • Illustrate the ways that sexually-informed and LGBTQIA+ care are based in trauma responsive care
  • Conceptualize how these types of care apply to real life scenarios
  • Assemble techniques and applicable strategies to use in clinical settings
  • Evaluate how participants will utilize these concepts and techniques with their clinical populations

Please note: This full-day in-person training is the first in a 4-part workshop series. The dates and times of the other workshops in the series can be found below.

* Please note that this workshop will include both didactic and experiential learning components. The experiential learning structures include demonstrations of psychodrama and other experiential processes which often include (optional) personal disclosures from participants. While personal growth is often a byproduct of experiential learning in psychodrama, the primary purpose of this workshop is training. If you are seeking a workshop for personal growth or seeking a professional training event that is entirely didactic (lecture/powerpoint), this is probably not the best workshop for you.

* Please note that all participants will be required to wear a mask while in the building due to the rising COVID-19 cases in Delaware County and the Philadelphia area. Covid policies are subject to change based on changes in COVID-19 cases leading up to the date of the event.

For folks traveling from out of town, there is a beautiful new bed and breakfast just one block from the Phoenix Center that we recommend. It is within walking distance of downtown Media and plenty of shops/restaurants – https://www.gifford-risleyhouse.com. Mention Phoenix Center for a reduced rate.

No conflicts of interest or outside commercial support have been declared by the presenter or others involved in the program.

This workshop is designed primarily for psychologists, social workers, counselors, therapists, and graduate students, but other professionals may also find it helpful. The instruction is designed at the intermediate level (although many new and advanced professionals may also find it helpful).

CE program policies and procedures related to refunds/cancellations, grievances, and conflicts of interest can be found here.
