About the Training:

The balance between the maintenance of safety/containment and the rigor of thorough assessment of suicidal ideation is challenging. The mishandling of this balance affects assessment outcomes. In this workshop we will discuss suicide assessment through the perspective of Internal Family System.

This workshop will have both experiential and didactic features, discussing risk factor analysis as well as countertransference in the suicide assessment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify one barrier to accurate suicide assessment.
  • Explain suicidal ideation from an Internal Family Systems perspective.
  • Identify one therapist part that arises in response to suicidality.
