About the Workshop
The six trauma-informed principles outlined by SAMHSA offer practitioners and leaders guidelines for best clinical and organizational practice. These same principles can also be approached as ethical imperatives. Trauma-informed principles promote healing, centralize relationships, and prevent retraumatization. This workshop outlines the basics of trauma-informed care and its value as a supplement to our codes of ethics for professional standards. In this context, trauma-informed principles will be presented with their utility in therapy, organizations/systems, supervision, education, and leadership. Experiential methods will be employed to promote critical reflection on participants’ relationships to each of the trauma-informed principles in their own work. Content from the presenter’s book on trauma-informed care will be included.

*Please note that this is workshop will include both didactic and experiential learning components. The experiential learning structures include demonstrations of psychodrama and other experiential processes which often include (optional) personal disclosures from participants. While personal growth is often a byproduct of experiential learning in psychodrama, the primary purpose of this workshop is training. If you are seeking a workshop for personal growth or seeking a professional training event that is entirely didactic (lecture/powerpoint), this is probably not the best workshop for you.
