Accepting New Clients
Carolyn Smith is a Licensed Professional Counselor who graduated from Immaculata University with her master’s in clinical Mental Health Counseling. Carolyn is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and has completed advanced trainings in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Heal Your Life Teacher (HYL), and earned her 200 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) in 2020 with a focus on trauma informed yoga. Certified Trauma Professional (CPT) certificate. Carolyn specializes in working with children (10+), adolescents, adults, and couples.
In the past, Carolyn worked at Mirmont treatment center supporting clients struggling with addiction, mental health issues, and trauma. Carolyn has extensive experience with both individual and group therapy. Some of the areas of group focus included working with first responders, LGBTQIA communities, trauma and experiential groups, mindfulness sessions, and yoga classes. Carolyn also facilitated psychoeducation lectures on the disease of addiction, managing mental health issues, and the effects of addiction on families. During her time at Mirmont, Carolyn helped create and facilitate the family program.
Over the past several years Carolyn has been providing outpatient counseling services. Carolyn’s gentle disposition and therapeutic approach is compassionate, empathic, curious, and nurturing. Carolyn feels healthy supportive connection helps create safety and build rapport with her clients. Carolyn has supported clients with a variety of issues such as trauma, grief/loss, addiction, life transitions, dissociative disorders, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, as well as couples struggling with the effects of infidelity/betrayal trauma. Based on her client’s individual needs and goals, Carolyn utilizes a variety of strength-based approaches and healing modalities including EMDR, MBSR, talk therapy, experiential therapy, and trauma informed yoga. To stay current in the field and best support her clients, Carolyn actively engages in ongoing education to support clients on their healing journey.
Carolyn feels passionate about the healing process and supporting clients in becoming their own best friend and advocate. She believes that healing is possible and focuses on helping her clients get to know the ‘self’, explore limiting beliefs, get in touch with internal and external strengths and resources, understand and accept all our parts, and learn how to support, encourage, and nurture the ‘self’. She feels passionately that when we do the work and learn how to accept ourselves and have our back, we become what we need to flourish and thrive. In the process of building a solid resourceful foundation, clients develop coping skills to manage life’s challenges.
Carolyn’s typical fee is $200 for individual therapy (53 min). Although she only works on a self-pay basis, she is able to provide documentation for clients to submit for out-of-network reimbursement from their insurance provider.
